Interfaith Health Clinic Gets Support from Congressional Candidate

POLITICS/LOCAL

Hoyos launches fundraiser for Interfaith Health Clinic with a $1,000 donation during increased need from the COVID-19 crisis.

Renee Hoyos is on the 2020 ballot as the Democratic candidate opposing Tim Burchett for Tennessee 2nd Congressional seat.

KNOXVILLE, TN — The campaign volunteers for Rene Hoyos for Congress have shifted their efforts to meet the needs of the community that have arisen from COVID-19.

With the spread of COVID-19, Hoyos is “putting people over politics” and giving back. Over the past two weeks, Hoyos has directed much of her campaign resources to meet community needs.

Hoyos’ campaign volunteers have made over 2,500 wellness-check phone calls, hundreds of text messages, volunteered with Mobile Meals, volunteered with the FISH Pantry, delivered groceries to home-bound neighbors, and worked with the Knox County Office on Aging to check in on their seniors weekly.

Because of social distancing, Interfaith Health Clinic in Knoxville has had to cancel major fundraising events. In an effort to help fill the gap, Hoyos launched a fundraising drive for the Interfaith Health Clinic with a $1,000 donation. Interfaith, provides care to low-income, working uninsured and underserved East Tennesseans.

Hoyos’s first-quarter financial report for 2020, Jan. 1st through March 31st, came from over 1,500 donors. Tennesseans represent 85% of Hoyos’ donors, and 50% of them were “new” donors. Hoyos raised $124,502 — a 54% increase over the previous financial quarter.

“The money we have raised is less important to me than the people we have reached,” Hoyos said. “Folks donating their hard-earned money to our campaign is a responsibility that I take seriously. Interfaith Health Clinic provides healthcare to the working-class without insurance who otherwise have no access to healthcare,” Hoyos said.
