Inner-city Concerns Welcomed at Meeting Thursday, Aug 5
MAJOR CAMPAIGN ISSUES FOR MAYORAL CANDIDATES as DEFINED BY COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS IN THE HEART OF KNOXVILLE
Community Voices Coalition is a grassroots coalition that is making sure Gun Violence, Youth Opportunities, and Unaffordable Utilities continue to be major election issues in the mayoral race. These are the top issues of concern expressed in a historic survey of 699 inner-city residents.
On September 5th the CVC invites inner-city residents to attend a follow-up Community Conversation to express their key issues. The purpose of the event is to have residents translate their top concerns into specific, workable policies and programs they want to implement in partnership with the next mayor.
The product that comes out of Thursday’s event will be the policy framework that the Coalition will bring to their next Mayoral Candidate Forum on September 28th.
the top issues identified in the survey were discussed in a Coalition-sponsored mayoral candidate forum in July. In addition to asking how they would address Knoxville’s dubious distinction of having the highest African-American poverty rate in the South, candidates were asked how they would address the issues of Gun Violence, Youth Opportunities, and Unaffordable Utilities.
In this important election year in the city of Knoxville, the series of Community Conversations and forums is an effort for inner-city residents concerns to be heard and to hold elected representatives accountable.
