Knoxville, TN – Mildred Holloway Minter met her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 11, 2019 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. Family and spiritual leaders were by her side during her transition. Through her declining years, she remained in the comfort of her home in the loving care of her youngest son James.
Mrs. Minter was born December 7, 1922 in Eatonton, GA, to Odessa (Lawson) Whiteside and Sylvester Holloway. She was raised by her aunt Virgel Lawrence in Knoxville.
She wed the love of her life Robert Lee Minter, Sr. on June 16, 1940, in Knoxville, Tennesse. The couple had six children who all grew to make positive contributions to society. Their 67-year union was until Robert’s death.
Mrs. Minter was an active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. She served in the church nursery for over 50 years, Women’s Sunday School, Pastor’s Aide, and was a Mother of the Church. Church members, neighbors and friends enjoyed her generosity and unique sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband Robert Lee Minter, Sr.; granddaughter Karen Jones; and son-in-law, Casey Jones.
She was loved and under the care of her children: Robert (Regina) Minter, Jr., Annie (deceased Casey) Jones, Wilbert (Carolyn) Minter, Lillie (Jerry) Garner of Neptune, NJ, James Minter, and Irma James of Atlanta, GA.
Her legacy will continue through her 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, relatives and friends that include the Mount Olive Church family.
The family will receive friends from 11 am-noon on Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1601 Dandridge Avenue. Celebration of Life Services will follow officiated by Rev. Jesse Williams. Her final rest will be at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Lyons View on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 9:30 AM. A white dove release will conclude the services.
