Knox County Trustee Ed Shouse and Commissioner Evelyn Gill are encouraging eligible property owners to apply for the Tax Relief and Tax Freeze Programs. Come to Burlington Library on Tuesday, January 29, and they will have County employees on hand to answer questions and enroll residents in the program.
The 2018 property tax statements were mailed in October. Even if you’ve paid your property taxes, you can still apply. Proof of age and 2017 income required.
Tax Freeze is open to homeowners age 65+, with a 2017 household income limit of $39,330. If eligible, the property tax amount will be frozen for the homeowner. Participants must re-qualify each year.
Tax Relief is open to homeowners age 65+, or total and permanent disabled, or total disabled veterans and their widows(ers). Knox County tax relief amount is $146 for those who are elderly and/or disabled, and up to $928 for disabled veterans. Additional tax relief is available to homeowners that live in the city.
