A conversation on the legacy of Brown v. Board of Education and the continuing impact on Black students and teachers to this day.
NATIONWIDE (March 15, 2022) – Who do we become when we see ourselves in the leaders around us? This is the question at the heart of After 1954, a new podcast from Lemonada Media and The 1954 Project, sponsored by the Walton Family Foundation.
After 1954 explores the impact of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education decision on Black children and educators. Braven CEO Aimée Eubanks Davis hosts the podcast and serves as our guide, helping us understand the full consequences of ending segregation in schools, which led to the firing of tens of thousands of Black teachers across the South.
From education to entrepreneurship, we know that representation matters. From the ideas and leaders shared in After 1954 to the inspiring work of our grantees, we celebrate the efforts of so many partners working to bring our nation’s rich diversity of voices to the table. We know that much work remains.
That is why the foundation seeks to build a world where all children are thriving academically and socially and have the skillsets and mindsets to live choice-filled and purposeful lives. We will only be successful if we are guided by the voices and needs of the communities where we work. And those communities are full of brilliant leaders who are inspiring and unlocking the potential of the next generation.
To learn more about the leaders and stories featured in After 1954, please join us on March 31 at 1 PM ET for an intimate conversation with Aimée Eubanks Davis, Generation Hope CEO Nicole Lynn Lewis, and Author and Professor Michele Foster.
