KNOXVILLE, TN – This Saturday, Aug. 7, the Knoxville Area Urban League will host the 19th Annual “Shoes for School” event, from 9 a.m.- noon at Caswell Park, 620 Winona St. in East Knoxville.

“Shoes for School” is a community effort to celebrate the upcoming school year that starts Monday, August 9th. Food, fun, games and inflatables sponsored by Covenant Health, local businesses, nonprofits, church groups, and others. All children attending are welcomed to collect free school supplies, hot dogs, and enjoy the fun booths, bouncy houses, and games.

“Happy and Healthy Start” is this year’s theme. Attending families and qualified children will be provided with three essentials for a head start to the new school year: schools supplies, COVID-19 vaccines, and pre-ordered shoes.

COVID-19 vaccinations and information will be provided by New Direction Health Care Solutions.

“Shoes for School” originated as a way to distribute the new shoes ordered for children who had pre-registered with participating agencies. Walk-ups are not given shoes. Over the years it has grown into a back-to-school festival for any child to collect free school supplies, enjoy free food, and have fun.
