Tammi Campbell Appointed Principal of Austin-East Magnet High School
Tammi Campbell has been appointed Principal of Austin-East High School, effective May 2021. Ms. Campbell joined Knox County Schools in 2002 working with Project GRAD for seven years before becoming a school counselor at Austin-East High School. She previously served as a training specialist for Knoxville’s Community Development Corp., and as a trainer and customer service representative for businesses in Nashville and Knoxville.
Ms. Campbell was selected to be part of the Leadership Academy in 2011 and placed at Hardin Valley Academy as an assistant principal. She also served as an assistant principal at Austin-East for five years before being named in 2017 Ombudsman for Knox County Schools, a position she currently serves.
Ms. Campbell holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing from Clark Atlanta University; a master’s degree in Education from Tusculum College; a master’s degree in school counseling and an Educational Specialist degree in Administration Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.
Amelia Baker Appointed Principal of Carter Elementary School
Amelia Baker has been appointed principal of Carter Elementary School effective July 2021. Ms. Baker joined Knox County Schools in 2010 as a counselor at Central High School and later South-Doyle Middle School.
Ms. Baker previously worked as a teacher at Maryville City Schools and Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools. She began her career in administration in 2012 as an assistant principal South-Doyle Middle School and later assistant principal at Northwest Middle. She served as assistant principal at Pleasant Ridge before being named interim principal in December 2018 and subsequently, the permanent principal, a position she currently serves.
Ms. Baker holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Maryville College, a master’s degree in School Counseling from the University of Tennessee and an Education Specialist degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.
Melinda Russell Appointed Principal of Cedar Bluff Elementary School
Melinda Russell has been appointed principal of Cedar Bluff Elementary School effective July 2021. Ms. Russell joined Knox County Schools in 2010 as a teacher upon graduating from Tusculum College.
Ms. Russell taught at Shannondale Elementary School until 2015 when she was appointed assistant principal at A.L. Lotts Elementary. She served as the interim principal of A.L. Lotts in 2017 and was later named the permanent principal, a position she currently serves.
Ms. Russell holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Tusculum College and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Carson-Newman University.
Jennifer Morrell Appointed Principal of Pleasant Ridge Elementary School
Jennifer Morrell has been appointed principal of Pleasant Ridge Elementary School effective July 2021. Ms. Morrell joined Knox County Schools in 2003 as a teacher at Powell Middle School.
Ms. Morrell previously taught at Grace Christian Academy. She has also taught at Holston Middle, Cedar Bluff Middle and Karns Middle, and worked as an instructional coach at Halls Middle and Cedar Bluff Middle. She was part of the Leadership Academy in 2016 and placed at Bearden Middle as an assistant principal. In 2017, she was named the assistant principal at East Knox County Elementary and in 2020 she was appointed the assistant principal at Spring Hill Elementary, where she currently serves.
Ms. Morrell holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from King University, a master’s degree in Mathematics and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership, both from the University of Tennessee.
Karen Frost Appointed Principal of Powell Elementary School
Karen Frost has been appointed principal of Powell Elementary effective July 2021 . Ms. Frost joined Knox County Schools in 1997 as a teacher at Norwood Elementary.
Ms. Frost also taught at Carter and Powell Elementary schools. She began her career in administration in 2005 when she was named assistant principal at Copper Ridge. She is currently an assistant principal at Powell Elementary.
Ms. Frost holds a bachelor’s degree in Education from East Tennessee State University and a master’s degree in Administration from Lincoln Memorial University.
