POP Tenn Inner City Youth Paintball League
The East Knoxville Community has been rocked by gun violence. In the first few months of 2021, five students from the same high school have been the victims of gun violence. Each of them was promising students on their way home from school, except for one.
POP Tenn (Protecting Our People in Tennessee), is committed to offering support and innovative ways to protect black children from the ongoing violence and the senseless waste of childrens’ lives.
Before the end of the school year, members of POP Tenn acted as after-school safety patrols for students walking home. It has also provided security for youth-led events, marches and protests in the aftermath of the shootings.
This summer, POP Tenn intends to provide inner-city, at-risk youths, males and females, with activities alternative to gangs and violence, supporters, and mentors they can turn to when in need.
Plans for this summer are to introduce inner-city youths to the adventures and joys of being outdoors and alternatives to violence and gangs.
MYNARK recently organized the ‘Super Fish Bowl’ which was a fishing trip for youths to Big Ridge State Park. Fishing gear and was provided by sponsors.
The non-profit is seeking sponsors to fund excursions planned for this summer, which includes hunting, camping, and a paintball league.
Many of the youths MYNARK seeks to serve live in constant fear of violence, or glorify guns and violence. One of POP Tenn’s goals is to teach gun safety, local and state gun laws, and provide a safe environment for them to confront their fears by participating in defensive role-play and learn what to do when faced with danger.
POP Tenn wants to train youth to deal with and relieve social stresses in order to run, jump and play!
