A Tribute to Billy Tindell
A great Knoxville political leader has passed on. Billy Tindell was a
gentle giant who did a lot but you never knew how much he did. Billy Tindell
Sr, age 88, died Friday, March 11, 2022.
He was a veteran, husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather who will be missed immensely. Billy had a servant’s heart and served his community as a County Commissioner from 1970 to 2007, and briefly as Knox County Clerk, and served on numerous committees and boards.
As an organizer in East Tennessee, I remember Billy, for any time I called him to ask for help with civic projects or campaigns he would immediately say, “What do you need?” His laugh and mannerisms were infectious.
He had the ability to relate and find common ground with everybody, no matter their political position. He was one of those who knew how to reach across the aisle and make things happen.
I will miss Billy’s hugs and reassurance that everything will be alright no matter what happens. And once again, we have lost one of the great leaders in our
community. -By June Heath-Jones
