Help USPS Mail Carriers to Safely Deliver Your Mail

TENNESSEE – The Postal Service is asking customers to help reduce the risk of injuries to your carrier while delivering mail. Please consider clearing snow and ice from sidewalks and stairs leading to your mailbox. Hazards such as uneven surfaces, wet pavement, snow and ice pose a threat of serious physical injury to US Postal Service carriers.

Maintaining a clear path to your mailbox – including steps, porches, walkways, and street approach – will help letter carriers maintain consistent delivery service and avoid personal injury.

Customers who receive door delivery can help by making sure their sidewalk, steps and porches are cleared of ice and debris.

Customers receiving curbside delivery can help by providing safe access to their mailboxes by removing piles of the wintery mix of ice and snow left by road crews and snowplows.

These efforts help carriers to deliver earlier in the day and to maintain their scheduled deliveries.

Blue collection boxes also need to be kept clear for customers to deposit their mail and for the Postal Service to collect and process mail for delivery. Residents and businesses with collection boxes near their property are asked to help keep them clear of snow, ice and debris.

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
