MLK Community Conversation: Every Voice Heard, Every Vote Counted

Friday, Jan. 14, 7 pm; Virtual panel discussion. Our Civil Rights and 1st Amendment Speech is in grave danger throughout the country, Tennessee and in our own communities. This event will present a discussion of the problem and what we can do to save our basic rights. Panelists: Councilperson Seema Singh (Knoxville City Council), Denise Dean (East Tennessee Freedom Schools), Julie Gautreau (Knox County Election Commission), Mariam Husain (SEEED).

Community religious service Sunday, January 16, 4pm; Rest Haven Baptist Church, 224 East Watt Street, Alcoa. Speaker Rev. Peter Kenny Pastor of Williamson Chapel UMC in Maryville.

Community Program & March, Monday, January 17;  12:45 pm; Marchers with gather at the  MLK Community Center, 209 East Franklin Street, Alcoa to march to Clayton Center, Maryville College;

2 pm Program at Clayton Center; guest speaker Cassius Cash, Superintendent of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Community Celebration, Monday, January 17, 2pm; Nutt Theatre, Clayton Center, Maryville College. Speaker:  Mr. Cassius Cash, Superintendent of Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Mobile Food Pantry, Saturday, January 15th – 9am-2pm at Monte Vista Church Niles Ferry Road Maryville TN.

Wine Tasting & Fundraiser, 5 pm, Sunday, Jan. 16: Hosted by Blount County Democratic Party Districts 6 & 7. Suggested per person donation $30-$50, required (any amount is appreciated.) The event will include 4 unique and inspiring California wines along with food pairings. Ice tea will also be available. Can’t make the event? Your donation is important and appreciated. You must be 18 years old to contribute.

MLK Tribute – I Have a Dream Commemoration, Monday, Jan. 17;  – Gather at 1st Baptist Church Sevier County – March to Sevier County Courthouse Plaza and back to the church. The march is outside and masks are advised. Upon return to the church, there will be additional speakers and songs.
