BLOUNT COUNTY (July 13, 2021) – “Embracing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” will be focus of the Second Annual Race Relations Symposium sponsored by the Alcoa-Blount County NAACP and Blount County United (BCU). This year’s presentments will be in two Zoom sessions on Friday, July 16 and Saturday, July 17.
Systemic Racism and the Impact on Communities, Zoom session at 6:30 pm. Friday, July 16, a talk led by Atty. LaKenya Middlebrook, Chair, Knoxville Police Advisory Review Committee (PARC), and former Knox County Democratic Party Chair.
Knowledge is Power, Zoom session, Saturday, July 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. led by the Southern Poverty Law Center, which includes two breakout sessions. One on the racial wealth gap, and the other on facing history and ourselves.
NAACP and BCU will be share updates along with planned initiatives and actions in an interactive session with input from participants.
You can take advantage of the free wifi and attend the Saturday session during the children and youth activities at the Blount County Public Library Dorothy Herron Room from 10-11:45 a.m.
