ASK A CHEROKEE HEALTH PROFESSIONAL: Spotlights Dr. Febe Wallace
We Are Cherokee spotlights an integral member of the staff of Cherokee Health Systems.

Since 2014 Dr. Febe Wallace is the Director of Primary Care for Cherokee Health Systems (CHS), an integral role in the success of CHS. From 2006 she served as a staff physician.
“I feel blessed each day to work for Cherokee. We serve nearly 75,000 patients a year. Our medical team works diligently to provide love and care to patients who face many challenges. I’m glad that I can work hand in hand with our team to advance our mission to provide the highest quality health care for all in our community,” said Dr. Wallace.
Dr. Wallace grew up in Fairhope, Alabama. While she was in high school, it became clear to her that she was being called to use her abilities in science and math to serve others in the medical field. Dr. Wallace first went to Birmingham-Southern College, then on to medical school at Duke.
At Duke, she explored research in virology, but after two wonderful months with a family physician in Lenoir, North Carolina, she knew that her heart was in primary care. Dr. Wallace then completed her residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
After residency, she met her husband. They both then began a life journey that allowed her to experience different medical practices, from working in a solo private practice outside of Atlanta to urgent care to working at the University of Iowa to a private group practice.
Dr. Wallace says among her most meaningful experiences was working at Church Health, a clinic in Memphis for marginalized citizens. This helped satisfy her desire to serve citizens with limited access to health care until fortune brought her to Cherokee Health Systems in 2006.
“I know that all of my medical experiences before joining Cherokee have given me a perspective that has prepared me to take on the role of Medical Director,” said Dr. Wallace.
After work most days, you will find Dr. Wallace outside with her beloved dog, Roscoe. She also likes to travel and attend music events in Lexington with her husband. Dr. Wallace sings in her church choir, and every chance she gets, she escapes to visit her five grandkids!
