William Jennings “JJ” Jackson (age 77)

William Jennings “JJ” Jackson was born in Knoxville, TN to Willie Roy and Mary Elizabeth Jackson on October 30, 1944. He was the youngest of six children. JJ joined souls with his Heavenly Father, March 18, 2021, which was a great loss for his family and friends.

JJ attended Austin High School and relocated to the Bronx, NY at the age of 17 where he earned an apprenticeship in carpentry and cabinet making.

He later became a Master Carpenter and worked in his craft until his retirement in 2007. His work received many accolades and some of his craftsmanship is currently displayed with artwork in New York museums. Upon retirement, he returned to his Knoxville roots to be with his family whom he loved dearly.

Member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served on the Dining Committee and as a member of the Male Chorus. He enjoyed employment at Jarnigan & Son Mortuary, fishing, and gardening.

Preceded in death by parents; son, Carlmelo; his brother Roy F. Jackson; sister Louise Scott; nephew Robert A. Johnson Jr., and great-niece Vanieka D. Woods.

He is survived by sons Jerome and Carl, daughter Chrishina; sisters Geraldine LeGrande, Willie Mae (Charles) Brown, and Doris Johnson.

The body may be viewed at Jarnigan & Son Mortuary between 12 noon and 8 p.m., Thursday, March 25, 2021.

The family will receive friends, 12:30-1 p.m., Friday, March 26, 2021 at Jarnigan’s chapel with funeral service at 1 p.m. Rev. Dr. Harold A. Middlebrook, officiating. Interment at Mount Olive Cemetery.
