Steven LeRoy Calhoun February 7, 1950 - March 18, 2021

Steven LeRoy Calhoun, age 71

Steven LeRoy Calhoun was born on February 7, 1950 in Knoxville, TN to Willie Henry Calhoun, Jr. and Ann McGhee Calhoun. Steve was educated in Knoxville graduating from Fulton High School class of 1968. Shortly after, he was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War era. He was honorably discharged after 3 years of service.

After returning he reenrolled at the University of Tennessee perusing a degree in Engineering. Steve retired from TVA after 27 years. On May 18, 1985, he married Beverly Thomas Calhoun. Together they raised two children, Bradley and Aretha.

Steve had a passion for outdoor activates. His hobbies included fishing, trips to the mountains, walking and serving his church. He was a lifelong member of Bethel AME where he served as a Trustee board member, President of the mass choir, Treasure of Sons of Allen, van ministry and culinary committee. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile and his kind spirit.

Steve passed away March 18, 2021 at Parkwest Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents Willie & Ann Calhoun, and brother Willie “Nelija” Calhoun. He is survived by his wife Beverly; two children Bradley (Kimberly), Aretha (Marquis); his sister Andrea Hughes and brother Kevin Calhoun; 6 grandchildren; a devoted niece Latanya Lee and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service on Monday, March 22, 2021 at the Unity Mortuary Chapel at 1 p.m. with Pastor Lee Russell Brown, Jr. officiating. Due to Covid restrictions, the family respectively asks that masks are worn and social distancing be practiced.
