Born September 27, 1949 in Knoxville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of William Herbert Ewing and Lady Mae Brice. She grew up in the Farragut community and made history as one of the “Farragut Nine;” the first black female students to integrate Farragut High School. She led a wonderful life! Maggie married Ernest Mize and would later adopt her brother’s children whom she loved, nurtured and reared as her own. Over 37 years, she worked in sewing factories with Alpha Industries being her longest tenure. She met with her TOPS group for over 20 years. Something she got much pleasure from.
Maggie had the kindest heart! She was a God-fearing woman who adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was one of the most selfless people anyone would meet; always helping her fellow man and community in any way she could. She enjoyed going on cruises and was a bingo fanatic. She always dreamed of hitting the lottery to share the riches with everyone; now her spirit will forever be rich in our hearts.
Preceded in death by her parents; nine brothers; one sister and her “Angel baby,” Cassi A. Davis.
She is survived by her children, Leroy, Herbie, Raymond Jr., Stella and Melissa Ewing; 17 grandchildren including her longtime caregiver/granddaughter, Britnie Davis; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Retha M. Beal and Betty Tipton; a host of other family and friends to include best friends, Knorval and Willie Mae.
