Dmitri Grant Cowan, born September 20, 1945, to William Grant Cowan and Ruth O. Bearden Cowan, departed this life on February 17, 2021 at Island Home Park Health and Rehab. He was a graduate of Austin High School, Class of 1965, then enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after four years of active duty. He worked for several years at Alcoa Aluminum Company and retired with exemplary service.
Survived by daughters, Martina Cowan and Darlene Cowan-Green; son-in-law, James Scott Green; grandchildren, Jase Scott and Ean Kye Green; other relatives to include the Cowan, Debro, Harshaw, Jones, McAllister and McClain families; close friends, Olivia Cowan, Wilbur Burris, Daniel Brown, James Carmichael, J.D. Daniels, Lorenzo Glasgow, Ernest McDuffey and Thomas Steele. A special thanks to Tim Chandler and Dmitri’s barber Greg Harris.
Saturday, February 27, 2021, a public walkthrough is scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Greater Warner Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church, 3800 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Knoxville, TN. Social distancing and face coverings are required.

A graveside service will take place at Highland Memorial South, 9010 W. Simpson Road, Knoxville, TN 37920. Reverend Michael J. McNair is the eulogist. Military honors and a white dove release will conclude the service. During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order No. 17 (COVID-19).
