KNOXVILLE, TN – Dorothy J. McKinney Moore was a true trailblazer in Knoxville law enforcement who retired with 25-years of service. At the age of 30, she became the second African-American female officer at the Knoxville Police Department. She served on patrol, teleserve and culminated her career as a detective in the Criminal Investigations Division solving burglary cases in the West Sector. Dorothy was a graduate of Austin High School and a gifted athlete who excelled in various sports, including basketball, softball, and track, and won a city-wide physical fitness contest in her youth.
