George Reed (age 102)
George Reed, Sr., age 98, of Oak Ridge, TN, slept peacefully away to his heavenly home on December 8, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his wife, family, and friends.
He was a long-time faithful member of Oak Valley Baptist Church. He was always willing to assist anyone in the community that needed his service. He was honorably discharged in 1945 from the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife of 45 years, Sarah Helen Reed; one daughter, Shirley A. Freeman, and two sons, George Reed, Jr., and Dennis Shephard.
He leaves to cherish his memory, wife, Georgia Lee Reed; two daughters, Linda Williams of Oak Ridge, TN and Angela Kay Wilson of Claxton, TN; one stepdaughter, Lefran Jones of Knoxville, TN; one stepson, Joe Gallaher of Jefferson City, TN; one adopted son, Gregory B. Moore of Phoenix, AZ; one son-in-law, James Freeman of Detroit, MI; two granddaughters, Amanda and Denise Stewart, both of Oak Ridge, TN; one great-granddaughter, Amanda Faye Burum of Clinton, TN; five grandsons, Shawn and Johnny Williams, both of Oak Ridge, TN, Ernie Comer of Oak Ridge, TN, Jermaine, and Dontrell Shephard, both of Clinton, TN; many other nieces, nephews, cousins and the Oak Valley Church family to include his dear friends, Deacon B. Jackson and Reverend Margaret Yette-Mack.
Wednesday, December 16, 2020, a public walkthrough from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Oak Valley Baptist Church, 194 Hampton Road, Oak Ridge, TN. Social distancing and face coverings are required. Interment at Oak Ridge Memorial Park where military honors and a white dove release will conclude the service. During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order #17 (COVID-19). Flowers may be delivered to the church the morning of the walkthrough.
