Edward Eugene Carpenter July 23, 1952 ~ December 10, 2020

Edward Eugene Carpenter (age 68)

Edward Eugene Carpenter was born July 23, 1952 to Katherine Carpenter and Rev. Jessie Garner in Oak Ridge, TN.  He attended Oak Ridge High School and received his Vocational Training Certification at ITT Tech.

Eugene proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy man, receiving an Honorable Discharge after several years of dutiful service.  Returning home from the Navy, he worked at the Y-12 Plant.  He would eventually retire as a Material Clerk after 30 years.  Eugene was a member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee and a member of the male chorus.

Eugene was a very talkative and joking person. Rarely a time did you not see a smile on his face. And with his smooth stroll, he always came dressed from head to toe. Also known as “DJ Fly,” he loved his music and was known for providing the best jams at special events.

Having a natural talent for using his hands, on any given day, he would be under the hood of a truck or car. He loved to fix things! Eugene was a genuine person, loved by his neighbors and friends.  Those who knew him treasured their lasting relationship and will miss him dearly.

His role as a loving husband and a devoted father was his greatest joy!  Given a new nickname “New Gene” by his special son gave him much happiness and always made him smile.

Eugene departed this life on December 10, 2020 at Roane County Regional Medical Center in Harriman, TN.

He was preceded in death by his special parents, Freddie “Pop” (Louise) Hoskey; brother, William “Pluke” Carpenter and mother-in-law, Emma L. Kline.

Eugene is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Deborah Kay Carpenter of Kingston, TN; loving daughter, Shalaya Carpenter of Berea, KY; special daughters, Monica Bailey and Kayla Joines, both of Kingston, TN; special sons, Robert Buckmon of Berea, KY and Darren Bailey of Chattanooga, TN; mother, Katherine Carpenter of Oak Ridge, TN; father, Rev.
