Doris Jean Magaha Hurd (age 93)
Doris Jean Magaha Hurd, age 93, of Oak Ridge, passed away on Monday, December 22, at Norris Health and Rehabilitation Center, Andersonville, TN.
She was a loving Mom, grandma, great-grandma, and great-great-grandma.
Mrs. Hurd was born on June 17, 1927, in Rienzi Mississippi to the late Mark and Laura Bell Stovall Magaha. Her biological mother, Laura Bell, passed away when she was very young. She was raised by her stepmother, Mattie May Magaha, whom she loved very much.
She was baptized at an early age at Hopewell Baptist Church, Rienzi Mississippi. After moving to Oak Ridge with her husband she became a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate leadership of Rev. C.C. Fuller.
Mrs. Hurd loved children! She was a child-care provider for many of the children who lived in the Scarboro community. Mrs. Hurd became a foster parent and fostered many children. She adopted three of the children she provided foster care to give them a loving home.
She enjoyed spending quality time with family, planting and growing flowers, cooking especially family gathering cookouts, and shopping and she could shop until you dropped.
Mrs. Hurd was preceded in death by her husband Wilbert Hurd, daughters, Mildred Jeanette Doggett, Joyce Ann Little, and Abbie Gail Hendrix, sons, Wilbert Alexandra Hurd and Earl Kenneth Hurd.
Mrs. Hurd leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Brenda (Clarence) Hinton of Acworth, GA, Leah (Cleveland) Floyd of San-Diego, CA, Rhyessa Hurd of Nashville, TN and Kesha Hurd of Oak Ridge, TN; sons, T.L. (Jean) Hurd of Booneville, MS, Ernest and Leon Hurd, both of Oak Ridge TN; daughter-in-law, Shirley Hurd of Spartanburg, SC and son-in-law, Alonzo Doggett of Rienzi, MS; loving grandchildren; Bosha, Marcus, Kim, Shanel, Jasmin, Deon, Quinnie, Dewane, Shon, Tasha, Shane, Rhyquassha, Karen, Beatrice, Angela, Alonzo, Rocky, Tina, Dora, Wilbert, Jermaine, Michael, Shalonda, J.J., Damarion, Kariten, Ziyer, Seemion, Keyleha, Kazmeer, and Noel; forty-five great-grandchildren and twenty-six great-great-grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family too many to mention, a very special relative, Frankie Riddle of Knoxville, TN and many friends.
Special thanks to her granddaughter, Kim Holt, and grandson, Dewane Hendrix for providing home care for their grandmother. The family also extends their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Norris Health and Rehabilitation Center, Andersonville, TN.
Saturday, January 2, 2021, public walkthrough viewing from 9 to 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 195 Wilberforce Ave, Oak Ridge, TN.
Social distancing and face coverings are required. A graveside service will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park where a white dove release will conclude the service.
During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order No. 17 (COVID-19). Flowers may be delivered to the church the morning of the walkthrough.
