Senior Drive-thru Expo today at O’Connor Center

Knoxville, TN (Nov. 3, 2020) – Aging a Family Affair will kick-off its 36th year with a Senior Expo Drive-thru from 9 am to noon on Thursday, Nov. 5 at O’Connor Senior Center 611 Winona St. Knoxville. Vendors will provide information on local resources and services for seniors. Attendees will remain in their car, wear a face covering, and visit each booth throughout the drive thru. It will be an exciting time of sharing helpful information and handing out goodies for you to take home.

This year, a series of virtual presentations will be presented. There is no charge to participate in any of the events, but registration is requested at knoxseniors.org, or by phone by calling; 865-524-2786 (Mon.-Fri, 8 am – 4:45 pm). After you register, you will be sent information to join the online virtual presentations that will be on Fridays from 10 – 11am.

Each Friday’s presentation will offer some of the most accurate and current information on each topic to assist you in making well-informed decisions for your quality of life. The virtual presentations are free. The schedule and important topics is listed here:

  • Medicare Update – Friday, November 6 Presented by Blake McCoy, Medicare Insurance Advisors
  • Planning for the Future During a Pandemic – Friday, November 13 Presented by Glen Kyle, Franklin & Kyle Elder Law
  • The Spectrum of Normal Aging and Alzheimer’s Disease – Friday, November 20 Presented by Dr. Monica Crane, Genesis Neuroscience Clinic

Black Veteran’s Memorial Day Tribute, Alcoa, TN

(ALCOA, TN) The “5th Annual Memorial Decoration Day Celebration” was Monday morning at Cedar Lawn Cemetery. About 100 citizens were there to honor black veterans and their families. Attendance was deterred by drizzling rain. The event has attracted over 300 participants in prior years.

The celebration of black veterans began promptly at noon with Blount County veterans raised the flag during a 21-gun salute and bugle taps performed by members of the volunteer East Tennessee Honor Guard under the direction of Reid Gephardt.
