Knoxville College Board of Trustees seeking new members

Members of the Board of Trustees serve one or two consecutive 4-year terms that begin in January. The application deadline is September 29th.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (September 14, 2020) – Knoxville College is seeking interested persons who are willing to serve in a governance capacity on the Knoxville College Board of Trustees for a minimum 4-year term that can lead into a second term for a maximum of 8-years.

Established in 1875, Knoxville College is a 501(c)(3) non-profit historically Black institution that is open to students of diverse backgrounds and cultures seeking a quality liberal arts education.

The College provides a challenging and stimulating educational experience for students of demonstrated academic ability who have been afforded few advantages. Knoxville College provides its students with a distinctive opportunity for educational achievement regardless of their background.

Individuals with an understanding of business and finances, fund development, higher education, law, economic and community development, and/or marketing and communications are especially encouraged to serve to guide the direction of the organization through its mission.

The primary duties of a Trustee are to assume responsibility for fiduciary oversight and governance and, if selected, you will be bound by moral obligations: the duties of honesty, loyalty, and obedience. In addition, trustees are required to either contribute or raise funds for Knoxville College.

Trustees are expected to attend Board meetings every other month via electronic methods or in person, attend an annual meeting, and to serve on at least one of 9 committees: Academic Affairs and Student Affairs; Building and Grounds; Communications; Finance; Fund Development; Governance; Technology; Audit; and Government and Community Relations.

Rrequired information will be detailed in the packet and should include a short cover letter that outlines why you or your candidate would like to serve on the Knoxville College Board. You can self- nominate or be nominated by a current member of the Board of Trustees.

*New Board of Trustee members will be announced during the 2020 Knoxville College Homecoming in October. Service on the Board of Trustees is a 4-year term and can be extended for a second term for a maximum of 8-years. Terms begin on January 2021.
