Agnes M Bush (age 86)

Agnes Goins Bush was born on December 14, 1933 in Knoxville, Tennessee to her late parents, Herman and Edmona Goins.  She resided in Knoxville until Jesus welcomed her into her heavenly home on July 30, 2020 at 7pm.

She was a graduate of Austin High School, Knoxville College and Meharry Medical School, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.  Agnes was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated for over 60 years.

Agnes devoted her life to serving others. As a servant leader, she achieved the role as head nurse at Fort Sanders Hospital for many years. While at Fort Sanders, she authored a book on hysterectomies based on her research and experience. This book remained in circulation at the hospital years after Ms. Bush retired. She continued her servant leadership as a Director of the Job Corp Health Center. Following Job Corp, she devoted her time in other capacities of nursing.

Because of Agnes’ love of medicine and compassion, she continued to dedicate her life caring for others until her own health began to decline. She opened her home to everyone she encountered and was a wonderful mother, grandmother, educator, encourager, and a friend to all who knew her.

Agnes was preceded in death by sisters, Katherine Summerour and Elsea Goins; brothers, Curtis Goins, Herman Goins, and Thomas Goins; two nephews, she raised as sons, Edwin Summerour and Gregory Summerour.

She leaves to cherish wonderful memories with her daughters, Angela Ross and Treva Bush; goddaughter, Janet (Jarman) Watts; daughter-in -law, Brenda Summerour; niece, Maxine Dixon; son, Steve (Cherry) McMahan; grandchildren, De’shawn Ross and Xavier Walker; great grandchildren, Deshawn Jr, and Destin Ross; devoted sister-in-law, Elizabeth Goins; devoted cousins, whom she referred to as her brothers, Edward Clark, Michael Graham; devoted nieces and nephews that she help raise.
