Willie Tyrone Booker (age 69)

(UPDATED) OAK RIDGE, TN – Willie Tyrone Booker departed this life Friday, July 3, 2020 at Methodist Medical Center.  Born May 27, 1951 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, he was the son of C.D. and Augusta Spraggins Booker.

Willie attended Oak Ridge High School and remained an avid fan of Wildcats football and basketball.  He loved a sporty outfit, traveling, fine dining, and anytime spent with his grands and great-grands.  He was a true family man!

Willie met his childhood sweetheart, Deborah Hall, at the age of 14 who became his lifelong love.  They wed October 12, 1971 and to this union four children were born.

Willie was devoted to his family and friends alike.  He always had an encouraging word and willingness to help anyone in need.  He never met a stranger! Known as the “Neighborhood Father/ Uncle.” There was never a time anyone came to him and he did not try to comfort, console, or carry them through whatever it was they were going through.  A true testament of his character. He was a faithful member of True Light Missionary Baptist Church.

Preceded in death by his son Willie Tyrone Booker, Jr.; parents, C.D. Booker and Augusta (Spraggins) Booker Burnette and two sisters, Deloise Kirk and Vickie Booker.

Survived by his daughters Jacqualine (Rodgerick) Griffin, Renee Cherry, J. Imani King and Kayla Williams; sons, Jamann Booker, Armand, Dewone, William Taavian Booker and Jahiem Booker; grandchildren Charles, Menes, Jamiesha , Araya, Jamann  Jr., Jaylan , Jalayah , Jaleon , Jayonna , Rico , Armeka , Shatyrah , Ayden, Lil Dewone, Tabria , Teesha , Nirvanna , Nieanna , Imani , Steve , Alandra , Jataalis , Tiger , Tyrell  and Khalil; great-grandchildren, Ahzylaa , Tamia , Armoni , Imani , Ayden  and Niyonna ; sisters, Mary Booker, Geneva Booker, Lynn (Greg) and Tracy Booker; brothers, W.C. Booker , Hubert (Shelia) Booker, James Booker and Perry (Angie) Booker; aunts, Erie Baskin, (Chicago, Ill), Lou Dean Holiday (Westpoint, MS) and Minervva Booker (Muskegon, MI); uncles, Nan Spraggins (Chicago Ill), George Booker (Toledo, OH), Pete Booker (Muskegen MI), Hargel Booker (CA) and Walter (Muskegen, MI) Spraggins; devoted cousins, Charlie and Sam Bell; sisters-in-law, Kay Littlejohn, Roslyn Hall and Pam Price; brothers- in-law, Phillip and David Hall; extended family, The Stewarts; special friends, Larry and Gary Long, Stan Brown, Clifford Jones, Reggie Porter, Chris Turner, Lindell Wilson, Robert Jones, Janice Howard Vera Anderson, Gwen B. Saturday, July 11, 2020, family and friends may view from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m at True Light Missionary Baptist Church, 3229 George Light Road, Knoxville, TN 37931.  A private graveside will follow with Elder Darris Waters as the eulogist.

During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order #17 (COVID-19).
