Raquell Lee “Rockie” Dixson Smith (age 52)
(UPDATED) KNOXVILLE, TN – Raquell Lee Dixson Smith was affectionately known as “Rockie.” She was born a twin on May 2, 1968, in Knoxville, TN, to Lawrence Sr. and Mary Dixson. Rockie was a devoted mother, grandmother, wonderful daughter, sister, and aunt. Raquell displayed her genuine love for others throughout her life.
She grew up in the Lonsdale community attending Lonsdale Elementary, Sam E. Hill, Beardsley Middle, and culminating her education at Fulton High School class of 1986. Raquell earned her state certification in Cosmetology and flourished in this industry. She started her career at Andre’s Dynasty Hair Salon, she ended at Hair Etc.
In her own way, and with a beautiful smile on her face, she knew how to take care of her clients. Rockie never met a stranger. She was a devoted member of Eternal Life Harvest Center where she served faithfully over the kitchen committee. She loved the fellowship and constant community outreach there. Besides spending time with family and friends, Rockie enjoyed volunteering at Beaumont Elementary and West High schools, traveling, cooking, shopping and attending the hair shows in Atlanta. She was energetic and passionate. Rockie touched many lives by her smile and passion for life. She is loved and will truly be missed.
Rockie was preceded in death by her grandparents, David Sr. and Glorious Dixson, and Charles and Mary Ruth Avery; aunts, Aquilla Cantrell and Karen Avery; uncles, David Dixson Jr., Sylvester (Mary) McClain Sr., Charles Avery Jr. and William Avery and niece, Brooke Callaway Dixson.
She leaves to cherish her memory: children, Lucaya (Gennifer) Dixson and Donnell Smith Jr.; grandchildren, Kortlan Chandler, LuZaevion and LuZaya; parents, Lawrence Sr. and Mary Dixson; siblings, Evette (Don) Mills of Leesburg, Georgia, Rochell Dixson, Andrea Ford of Stafford, Virginia, Lawrence Dixson Jr. (Kemeshia) and Grayson (Melcharle) Davidson; aunts and uncles, Vivian Moore, Anthony Avery, Joyce Dixson, Minister Shirley (Wylie) King, Robert (Ethel) Avery, and Sharon (John) Knight of Raeford, North Carolina.
She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends to include devoted long-time friends including; Telicia Mims, Carolyne Thomas, Renee Johnson and Janda Brown; devoted neighbors, Barbara Mashburn and Dale Noe; and Beverly and Sandy of Hair Etc.
Our family would also like to give special thanks to Preferred Care of East Tennessee, Smoky Mountain Hospice, and The Pat Summitt Clinic for their care and support shown during Rockie’s aggressive illness.
Monday, July 13, 2020, family and friends may view from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Eternal Life Harvest Center, 1801 Western Avenue, Knoxville, TN. A private service and graveside will follow with Reverend Steve A. Simpson, Sr. eulogist.
During this time, we will remain in compliance with the Governor’s Executive Order #17 (COVID-19). Social distancing and face masks are required. Flowers may be delivered to the church during this time.
