JUNETEENTH Events: Freedom Rally & Town Hall
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the union soldiers, led by major general Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. This was two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation – which had become official January 1, 1863.

Juneteenth Town Hall Meeting access
A link to the Town Hall Meeting will be available through the E-Newsletter, “What’s Going On @ The Beck,” and on the Beck website (that is currently being redesigned) at www.BeckCenter.net. We are working with our partners to complete the development of our online platform for the Virtual Juneteenth Town Hall Meeting. The platform will allow access to 10,000 people to view/ participate in the discussion along with our twelve distinguished panel members. The planning team is also working to ensure the Town Hall Meeting is recorded and available following the Live Session. Please make plans to join us online for our first-ever “VIRTUAL” Juneteenth Town Hall Meeting on June 19, 2020 at 4 p.m.
