Candidate for TN State House Releases Black Agenda
Matthew Park releases new policy: “A Black Agenda for Tennessee”
Knoxville, Tennessee (28 April 2020) – Matthew Park, progressive democratic candidate for the statehouse district 15 race, released a Black agenda for Tennessee. The agenda was inspired by Sen. Elizabeth’s Warren policy and draws on many other policy proposals from members of the community as well.
The Black Agenda outlines several different areas in which progress must be made to make the root-and-branch structural changes necessary to make Tennessee truly equitable and equal for all.
The agenda itself consists of subtopics concerning financial, transportation, healthcare, voting
rights, housing, education, criminal justice, and a just transition to a green economy. Within
these subtopics, the policy outlines the steps Matthew believes are necessary to improve the
lives of black Knoxvillians and Tennesseans. Matthew worked with black leaders in
Knoxville and from across Tennessee.
“Black people and Black communities deserve and demand thoughtful and visionary policies
that address the issues important to their communities. This Black Agenda has been inspired by
presidential candidates like Elizabeth Warren and developed with input from black citizens in
Knoxville and other parts of Tennessee, and the Federal-Level Black Agenda 2020, which I
have also endorsed. It has been constructed with an eye toward specific policies that are
needed in Tennessee at the state level, though many policies will require the partnership of
local municipalities.” Park said about his expanded platform.
