Elizabeth Rowland is a Candidate for TN State Representative

Elizabeth Rowland wants to be your next TN State Rep. for Dist. 16, as State Rep. (R) Bill Dunn retires.

Knoxville, TN (April 26, 2020) – Knoxville non-profit founder, policy analyst, community advocate, and entrepreneur Elizabeth Rowland announced her candidacy for Tennessee State House of Representatives, District 16.

Elizabeth is the only Democrat vying for the seat. She will be on the ballot for the August 6th primary and the November 3rd general election.

Elizabeth is a Knox County native whose 20-year career in policy, government, law, and business has taken her across the state of Tennessee, the United States, and to the other side of the world. She is a collaborator, a problem-solver, and an advocate.

Her mother, a former registered nurse and retired
lawyer – and her father, a former US Army Captain, Vietnam War veteran, lawyer, and Tennessee State Representative – inspired Elizabeth’s inclination for public service.

Rowland has both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree
in International Affairs from the University of Colorado and Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, respectively.

After working in Washington, DC as a legislative assistant to former Congressman Harold Ford Jr. (D) Memphis, she move to China to study Mandarin and learn about that growing economic power firsthand.

Elizabeth founded a non-profit, at the state level, with a mission to educate and connect people in Tennessee to do business with China. As executive director, she led the organization for over five years in its effort to boost exports, attract Chinese investment, and create jobs in Tennessee. The organization’s programming and services have benefitted thousands of business people, companies, educational institutions, and students in Knoxville and across the state, by facilitating ground-up economic development and improved International business readiness.

At the local level, Elizabeth has volunteered and collaborated with various community organizations to advocate for equitable, consensus solutions to important challenges facing our city.

“Now more than ever during this time of pandemic and economic uncertainty, Tennessee needs knowledgeable, collaborative leadership that unites us to get through this difficult time together.
Leadership that listens to the people, and leadership that takes action. That is the type of leader I will be for the residents of Tennessee State House District 16,” says Elizabeth Rowland.

Elizabeth Rowland was born and raised on a farm in Knox County. She attended Bluegrass Elementary, Farragut Middle, and Farragut High Schools.

Rowland moved to District 16 in 2015, purchasing a home in Fountain City, where she lives with her fiancé, Jarrad Antczak, and their three chickens, Rosie, Martha, and Mango.
