The cloudy weather did not dampen Easter celebrations over the weekend. That includes the egg drop by helicopter at Harriet Tubman Park in East Knoxville. Although it was postponed from Saturday to Easter Sunday afternoon for flying safety, approximately 1,500 participants were present.
The event was spearheaded by Pastor Daryl Arnold of Overcoming Believers Church in East Knoxville. “We have had volunteers preparing 15,000 eggs for over 2-1/2 weeks,” said Arnold. Plastic eggs were stuffed with sweet treats and sealed for the drop. A few of the eggs included a special bonus – money! Currency from a $5 to a $50 bill was hidden in a few eggs, according to Arnold.
The helicopter made two egg drops that added to the excitement and energy of the event. Children up to 7-years old were allowed to collect eggs from the first drop of half of the eggs while others patiently waited their turn.
The event included free popcorn, hot dogs, and frozen treats; a free animated picture booth that was manned by local photographer Brett Blue.
