Darin Odell Snapp (age 50)
There are so many things that we will only get one of— and while the name may adorn fashion industries across the globe, for those who have known him, it is safe to say, “There will only be one Polo”.
(Knoxville, Tn) Darin Odell Snapp was born August 2, 1969 to Daria Snapp Johnson and Odell Buford in Detroit, Michigan. For the Snapp family, he would be the first grandchild and would set the stage for his beloved cousins, who were more like brothers and sisters, Lakiya and Mainza, who came after him. From the age of 2, Darin gave his step-father Ronald Johnson a crash course on raising kids.
Darin was educated in the Detroit Public Schools where he graduated from Kettering High School in 1987. After graduating, he maintained brief employment with the City of Detroit before being placed on medical. An energetic personality, Darin was as transparent as they came. Whether his words were rattling or reassuring they were always followed by a moment of laughter or disbelief. Nevertheless, Darin was a child of God. He accepted Christ at an early age at Coggins Memorial C.M.E. church and later moved his membership to Central C.M.E. church.
A people person, Darin never met a stranger and attracted many. His presence and his voice was his introduction and no matter the event, by the time it was over, everyone knew…Darin.
Having survived so much, Darin departed this life on April 7, 2020, joining his ancestors who preceded him in death; his beloved grandfather Kenneth Snapp, and grandmothers Doris Snapp and Johnnie Davenport.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother and best friend Daria Snapp-Johnson, his father, Odell Buford, his step-father Ronald Johnson; two daughters Starr Allen Snapp and Destiny Snapp, and a son Darin Snapp, Jr., three granddaughters Kylee Snapp, Kassidy Snapp, and Lyla Watashe; sister Darona Woods (Anthony), brothers Darquis and Dar’ron Johnson, nieces Olivia and Madison Woods. , three aunts, Lexine Pasha, Ingrid Glenn (Clifford), Anna Snapp; three uncles Van Snapp, Gino Snapp and Kevin Snapp (Monica); a great aunt, Merriam Cross, and great-uncle, Thomas Snapp.and seven cousins, Lakiya, Mainza, Asheda, Gino, Denita, Kar’re, Kenneth, Kenya, Jamaisha, Jenna, and Kourtney, second cousin Xuquieda, with whom he was very close, god-mother, Roslyn Riley, Earl Goss, who was like a brother, good friend, Ernest Johnson, and a host of family and friends.
There’s a saying that throughout life you will meet one person who is unlike any other. Our dearly departed came into our lives adding a flavor of joy, response, humor and sometimes bewilderment, but he was ours, and to know him, was to truly love him. Known for his brand preference, as nicknamed by his Uncle Cross, Darin “Polo” was the man, and the motif; the gentleman, and the swag; the cousin, and the brother; the father…and friend. Yet, for all of these things, he was ours and he will truly be missed.
