East YWCA to host County Mayor Jacobs for Read City USA on Thursday

KNOXVILLE, TN (December 17, 2019) — Mayor Glenn Jacobs will host a Read City USA “Mission Completed” celebration for youth served by this
Knox County Mayor Jacobs will read a variety of holiday classics at the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA at 124 S. Cruze Street in East Knoxville this Thursday, Dec. 19, at 5:30 p.m. All children and youth in attendance will receive a book. Food will be served to attendees.
The event is free and open to the general public and is co-sponsored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee. Attendees are encouraged to register at; TennesseeBig.org/ReadCity.

The Phyllis Wheatley Center was built as a facility for black women in 1920. In 1954, the center became the main facility for the YWCA’s youth programs in East Tennessee to provide youth with the tools necessary to overcome obstacles and to succeed in school and beyond. It also serves the East Knoxville community with education, and health & fitness programs.
