Hoyos Enters 2020 TN Congressional Race

Clean Water Advocate Rene Hoyos enters 2020 race for 2nd Congressional District and prepared to fight for East Tennesseans over powerful, outside special interests.

KNOXVILLE, TN (Oct., 2019) – Clean water advocate and community leader Renee Hoyos announces today the launch of her campaign for Tennessee’s 2nd Congressional District in the 2020 election.

“East Tennesseans deserve a Congresswoman who knows how to fight against powerful, outside special interests, who threaten our healthcare, threaten our clean water, and threaten our way of life,” said Hoyos. “I fought against those powerful interests for years while cleaning up Tennessee’s water, and I’ll do the same in Washington.”

Hoyos ran for Congress in 2018 to great success, moving her district more towards the Democratic party than all but 37 out of the 435 Congressional districts across the country. Achieving more votes than any non-incumbent Democrat in Tennessee, she also earned more votes than any Democrat in the history of her district, in both the primary and the general election.

“As the Executive Director of the Tennessee Clean Water Network, I didn’t give up if we lost a battle or didn’t accomplish all of our goals right away. I’m not giving up on fighting for East Tennesseans to have the representation we deserve, either,” Hoyos said.

For 14 years, Hoyos served as the executive director of the Tennessee Clean Water Network, where she successfully sued corporate polluters, took on powerful special interests, advocated for major changes to government policy, and installed lead-free drinking water fountains at schools across Tennessee.

“Our district is changing. It’s moved towards the Democratic party in the past five election cycles. My team and I are in this work for the long-haul, to build a community and infrastructure of voters, donors, and volunteers that will elect serious and brave representatives up and down the ballot,” Hoyos said. “That’s why I am excited to run again for Congress in 2020.”
