PUBLIC MEETING: Homeless Housing to be built near Battlefield Farm in East Knoxville
A public meeting on a proposed supportive (homeless) housing development on Fifth Avenue will be at 6 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2019, at the Knoxville Area Urban League Community Room, 1514 E. 5th Avenue.
This public meeting is intended to provide information about a proposal by Volunteer Ministry Center to build 47 units of supportive (homeless) housing development on City-owned property on East 5th Avenue, adjacent to Caswell Park and Positively Living.
The proposed site is adjacent to Caswell Park where softball enthusiast of all ages practice and play. To the west of this property is the Sertoma Learning Center, the Cansler YMCA, O’Connor Senior Center, and the Ashely Nicole Park that is equipped to allow handicapped children to enjoy a day in the park.
The meeting will be at the Knoxville Area Urban League, across the stret of the proposed site where help and classes are offered for people seeking skills training and jobs. It is on the KAT Bus Route 30 and is a block away from the Bus 31 stop at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Winona Street.
The meeting is on behalf of the City of Knoxville Director of Community Development Becky Wade, Volunteer Ministry Center Chief Executive Officer Bruce Spangler, City of Knoxville Office of Neighborhoods representatives, City officials and community development partners.
