Economic Portrayal of Poverty in America
Dr. Donald Bruce, Ph.D. Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research will talk about the federal definition of poverty, inequality, and mobility and how federal and state programs measures poverty and the holes in current safety nets. The presentation will be 7-9 pm Thursday, August 29 at the Blount County Public Library.
Dr. Bruce is the Douglas and Brenda Horne Professor of Business in the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee with a joint appointment in the Department of Economics and the Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research. His recent work has included an ongoing evaluation of Tennessee’s welfare program, Families First, for the Tennessee Department of Human Services, and an analysis of teacher supply and demand in Tennessee for the Governor’s Office of Education Policy.
The presentation is hosted by the Maryville Huddle and is the third of three Huddle meetings that explore income inequality, falling through the financial gap, and poverty in Tennessee/America. The public is invited to attend this meeting which is held at the Blount County Public Library in the Dorothy Herron Room.
