(OAK RIDGE, TN) The Scarboro Community Alumni Association held its election of officers on June 27, 2019, 7 p.m. at Spurgeon Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church. Executive Officers for 2019/20 were President, Tina Henderson-Porter; Vice-President, John Spratling; Secretary, Rose Weaver; and Treasurer, Deborah Booker.
The Association plans the biennial Scarboro Reunion weekend activities which will take place in 2020 and promotes annual scholarship support and enrichment activities for the Scarboro community.
From its inception in 2011, the scholarship fund has assisted some 30 high school graduates with first-year scholarships totaling $25,000 to date. The 2019 scholarship applications are due July 8, 2019.
Membership to the Scarboro Community Alumni Association is $30.00 a year. Memberships can be mailed to SCAA, P.O. Box 5418, Oak Ridge, Tennessee 37830 and should include contact information such as e-mail, street address, and telephone information. Members will be apprised of upcoming meetings and community events. Youth enrichment programs, fundraisers, and community resources will be forthcoming.
The mission of the Scarboro Community Alumni Association is to restore, revitalize, and rebuild our community. To empower the community to become responsible citizens and stewards of the community through community service projects and support services to affirm the integrity of our neighborhood in an effort to enhance individual self-worth.
The Association welcomes corporate and local business, as well as community support in its efforts to improve the quality of life in the Scarboro Community.
