KICMA Supports Freedom School with $500 Gift

The Knoxville Interdenominational Christian Ministerial Alliance (KICMA) had a Prayer Brunch on Saturday, April 20th, that was hosted by Pastor Michale Caldwell at Rogers Memorial Baptist Church on College St. that is located in the historically black Mechanicsville community.
The service included invited guest Denise Dean, Director of the East Tennessee Freedom School, where she was presented with a check for $500 – from KICMA to help support the local Freedom Schools which operates under the Children’s Defense Fund that was established by Marion Wright Edelman over 40-years ago.
“This will help us tremendously on our field trips and transportation this summer,” said Dean. “We are pleased to have the support of the KICMA organization not just financially but because of the role they play in the community and the relationships they have with children and families that the Freedom Schools serve.”
The Freedom School is the first recipient of KICMA’s newest charity.
“Each year we will be making a donation to a non-profit organization that educates and mentors young people in the Knoxville community,” said Rev. Gene Thomas KICMA President. “We want to step up our presence in the community.”
KICMA has given an on-going annual donation of $2,500 to the CAC Energy Program that assists qualified applicants with their utility bill.
