The dust has settled and the paint is dry on the newly renovated headquarters of the Knoxville Area Urban League at 1514 E. Fifth Avenue in East Knoxville.
KAUL President and CEO Phyllis Nichols and staff are hosting a Holiday Open House from 4-6 pm, Wednesday, Dec., 12. The 2.6 million dollar conversion of the old structure is impressive. It enables the organization to expand its education, workforce development, housing and entrepreneurship services, and to host community events.
Christmas came early at KAUL. Most of the holiday décor throughout the facility came as a surprise, according to Nichols. Reuben Mitchell, CEO of NACI Construction Management, Inc., one of the contractors hired, decided to show his appreciation by gifting holiday decorations for the facility. NACI is a TDOT/DBE general contractor that is veteran and minority.
The entrance from the Regions parking lot that most used by clients is restricted for use by employees only. So save yourself some steps and take advantage of the new parking areas. Access to the main level is most convenient from the side street on the east side. Parking is also available from Fifth Avenue when entering from the ground floor facing Fifth Avenue.
