The 32nd Annual Lonsdale Homecoming was carried out without a hitch despite being relocated from the grounds of Sam E. Hill School at the intersection of Sherman and Minnesota Avenues to Lonsdale Park a few blocks away.

The move was necessary after the parcel of land previously used for the homecoming was deeded from Knox County to the City then virtually given to Emerald Youth Foundation to build a $6 million Christian Center.

The Lonsdale Park was more accommodating than the previous location. It is a larger space with amenities that include a paved greenway, a large picnic shelter, and play area with the colorfully constructed kid-proof jungle gym. The park is complete with a bridge that crosses over the small trickling Lonsdale Creek to another play area. The park is adjacent to the Lonsdale Elementary School and the Lonsdale Recreation Center. Additional features include an adjacent basketball court that was not used by the homecoming participants.

Overall participants enjoyed the new venue. It was larger with more amenities than the former site.   Photos by Patricia Williams
